Olive Safari Uganda was founded by Ayebale Olive and her husband, Christer, blending decades of community service with a shared passion for hospitality and tourism. Olive served as the secretary to the Mayor of Entebbe for over 20 years, excelling in program management and international collaborations, including the Global Journey program, which fostered cultural exchanges between Uganda and Sweden.
Her journey became deeply personal when she met Christer through one of these programs, three years after losing her first husband while raising three children. With Uganda’s growing tourism industry and a need for quality hospitality, the couple established Sunset Hotel Entebbe. Inspired by guests’ interest in Uganda’s natural wonders, they founded Olive Safari Uganda in 2008.
Driven by Olive’s commitment to exceptional service, the safari company quickly gained loyal clients and flourished alongside the hotel. Today, Olive Safari Uganda stands as a tribute to her vision of connecting travelers to the beauty of Uganda.
Olive Safari Uganda was founded by Ayebale Olive and her husband, Christer Torstensson, combining their passion and expertise to create a thriving tourism enterprise. Christer, a Swedish consultant with extensive experience in education and development, spent years working across Africa, including establishing an automotive school in Zimbabwe and traveling through South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
His work with the Global Journey program brought him to Uganda, where he collaborated with municipalities and developed a deep appreciation for the country’s culture. It was during this time that he met Ayebale Olive, whose exceptional organizational skills and leadership impressed him. Their professional partnership evolved into a personal one, leading to the creation of Sunset Hotel Entebbe.
While Christer spent much of his time in Sweden managing his commitments to the Global Journey program, Olive led the day-to-day operations of the hotel. Inspired by the growing interest of guests in Uganda’s natural wonders, the couple founded Olive Safari Uganda. Today, the company thrives as a testament to Olive’s hands-on management and Christer’s strategic vision, showcasing Uganda’s beauty with exceptional service and cultural connection.
Tusiime Cheryl Myra, the eldest daughter of Ayebale Olive, has taken on the responsibility of continuing her mother’s legacy with determination and resilience. After losing her father at the age of six, Cheryl was raised by her mother, Olive, and supported by Christer Torstensson, who later became Olive’s husband. Olive’s passing in 2017, when Cheryl was just 19 and in her second year at university, marked a pivotal moment in her life.
From an early age, Cheryl and her sisters were involved in the foundations of Sunset Hotel Entebbe and Olive Safari Uganda. Following her mother’s death, Cheryl stepped into her role alongside Christer to manage the businesses, despite her background in computer science. With Christer’s guidance, she learned the complexities of running a business and, over time, discovered her passion for the tourism industry. In 2024, she earned her Master’s in Business Administration.
Cheryl’s hands-on leadership has been crucial in maintaining loyal clientele for Sunset Hotel Entebbe, adapting the hotel to post-COVID standards, and expanding Olive Safari Uganda. As a certified tour guide for Uganda and Zanzibar, she is committed to upholding her mother’s vision of exceptional service.
